Commercial insurance in Tennessee
Small-business coverage built for what actually happens in TN: a subcontractor falls off your ladder, a customer slips in your shop, your commercial van gets totaled. We package the right BOP, GL, comp, and auto.
What we cover
Coverage is custom to your situation — these are the typical pieces.
Business Owners Policy (BOP)
Bundles general liability + property + business income. Cheaper than buying separately. Best fit for retail, restaurants, professional offices.
General Liability (GL)
Third-party bodily injury and property damage. The baseline policy GCs require.
Commercial Auto
Vans, trucks, fleet. Personal auto policies exclude business use — get caught and a claim gets denied.
Workers Compensation
Required at 5+ employees in TN (lower for construction). Pays medical + lost wages for on-the-job injuries.
Professional Liability (E&O)
For consultants, agents, accountants, designers — covers mistakes in the work product itself.
Cyber Liability
Ransomware, data breach, social-engineering fraud. Increasingly required by enterprise customers.
Inland Marine / Tools
Tools, equipment, and stuff in transit. Standard BOPs underinsure this for contractors.
Umbrella
Stacks $1M+ of liability above your GL and auto. Cheap given the lawsuit climate.
What affects your rate
Carriers weigh these differently — that's why shopping multiple matters.
- Industry classification (your NAICS / class code drives everything)
- Annual revenue and payroll
- Number of employees and subcontractor spend
- Claims history (loss runs from the last 3-5 years)
- Years in business
- Location and building type
- Vehicles and drivers (for commercial auto)
- Specific contract requirements from your customers

Frequently asked
Do I need a BOP or just a GL policy?
If you have any premises (a shop, an office, a warehouse) or any business property worth more than $25k, a BOP is almost always the better buy. Standalone GL makes sense for service businesses with no location.
I'm a 1099 contractor. Do I need workers comp?
TN doesn't require it for true 1099 sole proprietors, but most GCs require it on jobsite anyway — and your personal health insurance probably excludes business injuries. We can set up an exempt or ghost policy.
Can I use my personal auto for business deliveries?
Technically yes for occasional use, but if you're delivering regularly your personal carrier can deny the claim. Commercial auto isn't always more expensive — sometimes it's cheaper for low-mileage business use.
How fast can I get a Certificate of Insurance?
Same day. Once you're bound, we email COIs directly to whoever you tell us — customers, landlords, GCs. We keep them on file.
Do I need cyber insurance?
If you take credit cards, store customer PII, or have a website that processes orders — increasingly yes. Carriers are also requiring multi-factor auth and backups before binding. We'll walk you through what's actually needed.
